Toward an Unshakable Summit

The new Shimano Antares represents a new flagship level for centrifugal-brake baitcasting reels.

At the heart of its casting performance is SVS Infinity, a centrifugal braking system that allows the cast trajectory to extend smoothly all the way into the latter half of the cast. To maximize this advantage, Shimano pursued the ideal spool size and arrived at a design with 14 lb nylon line capacity of 100 m and a 37 mm diameter / 21 mm width spool.

The newly developed Magnumlite Spool IV uses a reverse-taper shape to help correct the way line is laid on the spool. Combined with a new line guide shape and a worm shaft optimized for each gear ratio, line is wound evenly and in a well-balanced pattern. This reduces spool vibration during casting.

Together with inherited technologies such as Silent Tune and the S3D Spool, the reel helps prevent power loss during the cast, delivering a clean, exhilarating casting performance that continues to stretch farther.

For the first time in a Shimano baitcasting reel, Silent Drive is adopted, while the drive gear shaft is supported by three bearings. This creates a refined and comfortable rotation feel.

The palming shape fits naturally in the hand, while the clutch shape allows smooth, stress-free access to the spool. From palming and clutch operation to casting, lure control, and line pickup, every movement can be performed fluidly.

With elegant casting performance and a premium operating feel, the new Antares stands as Shimano’s new flagship baitcasting reel equipped with a centrifugal braking system.
