AIRDRIVE DESIGN consists of up to four key technologies, led by the iconic AIRDRIVE ROTOR, which delivers an exceptionally light and responsive rotational feel.
Behind this remarkably agile performance lies the MONOCOQUE BODY, providing a level of rigidity that defies the reel’s lightweight feel. Its resistance to flex creates the foundation for smooth, stable rotation.
Protected within this robust body is TOUGH DIGIGEAR, engineered for exceptionally quiet and refined operation. A specialized surface treatment increases gear hardness, enhancing long-term strength and reliability.
Daiwa’s proprietary MAGSEALED technology provides advanced protection against water and contaminants. It is installed at both the pinion and line roller, while MAGSEALED ball bearings protect both ends of the drive gear. On SF models, MAGSEALED is applied at the pinion only.
The drag system features ATD TYPE-L, retaining the smooth, consistent drag performance of ATD while delivering an even faster initial response. This allows anglers to fight fish confidently, even when using light line.

AIRDRIVE DESIGN
AIRDRIVE DESIGN is Daiwa’s next-generation spinning reel concept, developed to give anglers precise and intuitive control over every movement of the lure.
The system consists of up to four key technologies. At its core is the AIRDRIVE ROTOR, essential for delivering an exceptionally light startup and highly responsive rotation. It is complemented by the lightweight, trouble-resistant AIRDRIVE BAIL; the thin-walled AIRDRIVE SPOOL, meticulously stripped of unnecessary material to minimize weight; and the AIRDRIVE SHAFT, which supports the main shaft with a high-precision collar while maintaining a non-contact structure with the pinion gear. This enables exceptionally light, quiet reeling—even under heavy load.
The combined effect of these technologies, together with improved reel weight distribution, delivers an exceptionally high level of handling and control.

AIRDRIVE ROTOR
Developed from Daiwa’s proprietary engineering principles, the AIRDRIVE ROTOR features a new form that appears almost as though it were carved directly from a sphere.
By thoroughly removing unnecessary material while retaining structural rigidity, Daiwa achieved a significant reduction in weight. The result is a dramatically lighter startup response, contributing directly to improved handling and sensitivity.
AIRDRIVE BAIL
Daiwa’s Air Bail has long employed a hollow tubular structure to combine rigidity with low weight. For AIRDRIVE BAIL, its diameter has been reduced even further while maintaining the strength required for dependable performance.
The bail is positioned at an optimized angle, allowing the line to transition more smoothly from the bail to the line roller. This refined design delivers even lower weight and enhanced trouble-free operation.
AIRDRIVE SPOOL
The AIRDRIVE SPOOL uses an ultra-thin-walled construction from which unnecessary material has been comprehensively removed.
Weight reduction extends beyond the spool skirt to carefully engineered cutouts inside the spool itself. The lighter spool improves initial winding response, casting movement, and overall reel handling.
A low-resistance drag click mechanism also enhances responsiveness when the drag begins to operate.
AIRDRIVE SHAFT
The AIRDRIVE SHAFT incorporates a Linear Shaft structure that keeps the main shaft and pinion gear from making contact, eliminating frictional resistance between them.
Both ends of the pinion gear are supported by ball bearings, allowing input power to be transferred into rotational force with maximum efficiency. The main shaft is also supported by a high-precision collar, thoroughly reducing rotational noise and delivering a smoother, lighter winding feel.
Available on LT models only; not featured on SF models.
MONOCOQUE BODY
The MONOCOQUE BODY is Daiwa’s advanced technology for exceptional strength and durability.
Conventional spinning reels generally support both ends of the drive gear between the body and a separate body cover, secured with multiple screws. To achieve greater rigidity and precision, Daiwa eliminated the traditional body cover and instead introduced a high-precision plate that screws directly into the reel body.
This structure improves drive-gear support accuracy while increasing rigidity and sealing performance. Removing the space previously required for conventional screws also allows the drive gear to be enlarged to the practical limit of the body.
The term “Monocoque” combines mono, meaning “one,” and coque, meaning “shell.” Like the strength of a single-piece shell, this revolutionary structure challenges conventional spinning reel construction.
MAGSEALED
MAGSEALED is Daiwa’s proprietary sealing system. It creates a barrier of magnetized MAG OIL between the body and rotor, helping prevent seawater, dust, and other contaminants from entering the reel.
LT models feature Full MAGSEALED protection at three key areas: both ends of the drive gear, the pinion section, and the line roller.
To prioritize finesse performance, SF models feature MAGSEALED protection at the pinion section only.
TOUGH DIGIGEAR
A reel built to withstand demanding conditions requires an exceptionally strong and dependable internal core.
TOUGH DIGIGEAR delivers the strength and precision needed to maintain smooth rotation for longer, providing lasting performance in challenging fishing environments.
ATD TYPE-L
Daiwa’s Automatic Tournament Drag—ATD responds smoothly to the pull of a fish and continues applying consistent drag pressure throughout the fight.
ATD TYPE-L further improves the initial response, with particular attention given to smooth startup and precise drag tracking. This allows anglers to focus on fighting the fish without constantly worrying about drag adjustment—even when using light line.
LC-ABS — LONG CAST ABS
LC-ABS retains the low-friction design philosophy of ABS II while moving the spool’s line-contact point farther forward for smoother line release.
The forward-positioned spool lip makes it more difficult for line to accumulate on the lip itself. Compared with the previous ABS II design, this improves casting distance by approximately 5% while further reducing line-related trouble.
LC-ABS is Daiwa’s next-generation ABS spool design, engineered to achieve true Long Cast performance.
